L.A. Lakers Majority Owner Jerry Buss Passes Away…
World-renown businessman Jerry Buss — most notably known as owner of the Los Angeles Lakers — died today after a year-long battle with cancer.
Buss, who was enshrined into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010, goes down in history as one of the most successful sport franchise owners ever, winning 10 NBA Championships in three different NBA eras.
In an era where slowed down, “bump and grind” hardcore physical basketball was standard in the NBA, Buss is credited for pushing the ideal of “Showtime” in the 1980s, encouraging coach Pat Riley to utilize Magic Johnson’s talents to make basketball games more entertaining with constant fast breaks.
Buss is survived by six children.
